Entry 1: October 22, 2020

Woke up in the strangest place today. I opened my eyes to find myself in some sort of hotel room. I did not know how I got there. When I woke up, things felt....it is hard to describe. But, things felt off to me. The air was strange. It was too quiet. I half expected to be on the range, but no, I was in a town. I suppose even on the range there are noises. Birds, the wind, things like that. Nothing here.

I took some water from the basin and made it into coffin varnish. I wanted to be alert. It's taste was the one thing that was not off about this place. It was as better as ever. Strange that I've come to enjoy the flavor. I suppose when it's your first enchantment you want to hold onto it.

I eventually found my way to the center of town. I met three other individuals there. They are...

Slim Whitman. I did not catch much of Slim's backstory, but he seems to be levelheaded enough. Got the impression he didn't care for my attire.

Ellis Remington. An interesting individual. By his accent, he seems to be from Eastern Bethore. Far enough away he won't know any of my acquaintances back home.

Virgil Astrel. A big guy with a big knife. He doesn't seem afraid to use it. He's also clearly got a religious past, but I get the feeling he's sorting through some stuff there.

Anyways, we meet up. Ellis suggests we go to the saloon. Not sure if this was him wanting a drink first thing in the morning or if he needed it because Virgil had looked poised to use a cleaver on him. Either way, we go to the saloon. We pour drinks. They taste like nothing. Even the local beverage, Life, is supposed to have a strong licorice flavor. But, nothing. We compare stories, none of us knows how we got here. Or why anything is the way it is.

Slim decides to mime a poker game, which Ellis was all about. Ellis seems very keen on gambling. Apparently, he remembers something. This whole seems off to me. While they pretend to deal cards, Virgil busts up a chair with his knife. That's when I realize the only thing to have feeling to it today was the coffin varnish. So, I think about a place where there's no taste, smell, sound...I think we may have crossed over into the spirit realm.

I tell this to the others, but well, I should know by now that describing the occult is hard. We decide to explore the town. We find a well, and the water there tastes like water. Virgil takes this time to cleanse himself or take a bath. Clearly a religious element to it, but like I said, he's going through some stuff on that front.

I'm all in favor of getting a rope and lowering ourselves down to see if we can figure out what's at the bottom. We did throw a rock down there but couldn't hear anything. Still, something's at the bottom of the well. So, I think. Slim and Ellis take off to find rope when I hear a voice telling me, "This isn't the way." I answered back, but Virgil look at me like I was the one with something to sort out, so must've just been in my head.

The other two come back from the general store. They have rope but also another person. Embarassed to say I didn't catch her name, still being rattled by hearing a voice in my head. So, we go back to the general store and go into the basement. Clearly, there's something there that they're all excited about. But, they can't figure out what's what. They must have missed the lever behind the boxes. I pull it and a slide opens up.

Head down the slide, and back into the real world. Back in Goodwater, but this time with people and tastes, the whole nine yards.

I've got a feeling I should head to the saloon that I last frequented in the spirit world. I have a sudden urge to play poker. If Ellis felt that urge, I wonder if he'll even know if something is off. It may be worth traveling with these folks for awhile. May be putting the cart before the horse here, but I have a feeling that we are going to be together. I doubt they know anything about the Book of Games, but they may be condicive to some end.

Catching Up: Part 2

When I left off, we had brought a horse to life. I had to pause there because within the narrative, the next thing we knew, we were in a ta...
